Move over Peter Parker...

Hey guys,

For those of you who believe super-heroes can be real, or that you don’t need a super-power to be a super-hero (Bat Man)… you should be aware of Alain Robert.  The 48 year old has earned the nickname “the French Spiderman.”

Robert has climbed some of the world’s tallest and most dangerous buildings, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and Sears Tower in Chicago.  However today he plans on attempting to climb the tallest building on Earth, Burj Khalifa in Dubai (2,717 feet).  The climb is part of an “Education Without Borders” conference, and organizers thought having Robert there would be an exciting piece of the event.

Robert, who earned his nickname not just because of his climbing, but also because he wears a Spiderman costume while he climbs, normally does his work without the use of any safety equipment, however in Dubai he will resort to a rope and harness.  The reason for the precautions?  Dubai is hot… very hot… with temperature often close to 104 degrees!

You can Google Alain Robert to see the list of over 100 buildings he has climbed, and YouTube him to see him in action.  A word to the wise though, Robert is not always invited to climb these places and has been arrested for his spider-like activities.

What do you think?

  1. He is crazy to climb a tall building as 2,717 feet tall. Especially in a very hot temperature. It would also be too dangerous. Climbing a building that tall would kill me.

  2. If he has the guts to do it, that's his choice. He should do what makes him happy even if it is crazy. Personally, I'd probably fall a few feet up and brake my neck. Climbing two thousand foot buildings isn't for everybody.

  3. Its awesome that he has the ability to do this. It must be a huge thrill and accomplishment for him. It's crazy that he does almost everything without safety equipment. Steve Erwin also involved himself in dangerous activities and ended up dying so that very well could happen to Alain Robert if he is not careful.

  4. I think that the it is insane that someone would take risks a large as this man is. 2, 717 feet tall is a very tall building and something could instantly go wrong. I cannot believe that someone would risk their lives so many times by climbing all of the buildings that Robert has. From experience Tarzan Swinging in Costa Rica I know that the feeling of being extremly high in the air is amazing, and when your falling its an even stronger feeling. I understand the thrill of doing things like this, but I still dont see what would possess someone to climb such high buildings without any saftey equitment at all. I think it is good that he actually used a harness this time, but because of the heat isnt a strong enough reason to. Robert should continue to use safety equitment if he wants to keep climbing buildings.

  6. I believe that this man is CRAZY!!!! but he has to be really brave to do what he does. Some of these stunts are unimaginable. Peter Parker should move over on the Spider Man name. This guy does it without a web.

  7. Well, this man definitely does not have acrophobia. This is amazing what he does, but also extremely scary at the same time. Alain Robert sounds like an interesting person, and it would definitiely be interesting to watch him make one of his historic climbs in person.
