NYPD stop terror...

Hey guys,
Members of the media photograph a group of weapons, ammunition and a hand grenade displayed at a news conference at City Hall in New YorkYesterday two men were arrested in New York City after police discovered a plot to bomb several Jewish synagogues in the city.  The arrests were the culmination of a seven month long sting operation. The men were finally caught when they attempted to buy several guns and grenades from undercover police officers.
The police eventually discovered the men had plans of attempting to destroy the Empire State Building as well.
Authorities claim that the men were working alone and were not part of al-Qaida or any other known terror group.  Police want to make clear that these men were not acting in response to the death of Osama bin Laden as this investigation has been ongoing long before bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan.
According to reports this is the 13th attempted terror plot since 9/11 that law enforcement officials have stopped.
Take some time to read the attached article (it’s not that long)… then read the comments from other readers.  You will see some comments from frightened people, some comments from educated people, and then you will see some statements made by people who simply do not understand the difference between faith and extremism… faith and extremism of any religion.
After reading the comments, I’m convinced that our discussion with the religious leaders of our community taking place next week in school is more necessary than ever.
What do you think?

  1. ROTFL to some of the comments. And a smack in the head to the ignorant…people who think that muslims are responsible for everything. That's like saying that Canada is secretly plotting to overthrow the U.S. It's ridiculous. Half of the people were bashing Wall Street, and the other half were bashing Muslims. Get a life. Something like this in ProbStats is what's called volunteer bias. The people that feel strongly about something (often negative) are more likely to respond. No one can judge the entire country on the ignorant comments of delusional crackpots.

  2. Yes, some of those comments are absolutely heinous and should be deleted from that page by the people at Yahoo! These people are just looking to get a rise out of the readers of these articles. The gasps of these viewers will be all the satisfaction that these people are looking for from their ridiculous comments. "Islam the evil religion"?! Honestly? That may be one of the most broad statements I have ever heard. I am pretty sure "cars are important" is a less broad statement than that. At least they provided facts to support their claim; oh, wait, they did not. Whatever happened to 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'? People need to learn to stop instigating with these insane comments.
